SkyCaddie Pro 5X
- Arguably SkyCaddie's Best GPS Ever
By David Theoret
SkyCaddie claims their new PRO 5X is "the closest thing to a Tour player's yardage book." I tend to see it as an "automated" yardage book that provides the best course management information quickly and reliably. With the SkyCaddie PRO 5X, you will see more accurately what lies in front of you, enabling you to play better and have more fun. And we all know that lower scores are fun!
The SkyCaddie PRO 5X uses multi-constellation navigation satellite systems to enhance accuracy and overall performance under tough conditions such as stormy weather or tree cover. An ultra-fast multi-core processor produces an exceptionally fast response time. Sky Caddie's TruePoint Precision Positioning Technology makes the Pro 5X the fastest and most powerful SkyCaddie ever. And you don't need a hardwire connection to a computer; its Wi-Fi connectivity allows you to streamline updates and download courses on demand.
The graphics on the new PRO 5X are incredible and easy to maneuver on the 5.5", intuitive touch screen. Several automated features such as Auto-Course Selection, Auto-Hole Advance, and Auto-Zoom, make your round virtually "touch-free". When you combine the large HD display with the HD quality course graphics, you'll have the best view of the most reliable information in the game.
It comes preloaded with over 35,000 courses that have been ground-verified and error-corrected courses with no short-cuts taken. To garner this information, SkyCaddie walks each course and records thousands of points with sub-meter precision so you can be sure you're getting an accurate distance each time.
The setup is a piece of cake. Mine came fully charged and when I turned the unit on there were some handy tutorials that got me started. After locating the course, I was directed to a screen where I could set things like tees, flag positions, and more.
The Pro 5X is jam-packed with useful features., here are a few of my favorites.
Dynamic Rangevue is a feature that helps with club selection based on preset club yardages. Simply tell the 5X how far you hit each club, and it will help you make smart(er) decisions. As you play, you'll see your club range next to the RangeVue ring.
Another is Intellipath technology. Drag the cursor to your aiming point and yardage and Intellipath kicks in and shows you all the distances to all other relevant hazards in the vicinity.
Intelligreen Pro is a feature that allows you to see all of the major contours of the green from the fairway; since it doesn't factor in slope or gradient into the distance calculations in can be used in tournaments.
Dynamic HoleVue automatically re-orients the entire golf hole from your position to the green as you leave the tee box.
Not only does the Pro 5X give you a lot of information, but it can also record a lot of information too. The scoring software is very easy to use and can provide some insight into your game with its impressive stats feature. With its superior accuracy and reliability, the PRO 5X is the perfect companion for GameTraX 360, the next generation of in-game and performance tracking. And, with an extra-long battery life, you can go back and play another 9 or 18 - whatever your body can take!
The SkyCaddie Pro 5x comes with a 1-year prepaid Birdie membership and promotional packs. If you already own a SkyCaddie and are interested in upgrading to the Pro 5X visit the Trade-In page on their website.
All SkyCaddie products come with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and free UPS ground shipping within the contiguous 48 states. The SkyCaddie Pro 5X is available at most large golf retailers; you can also visit them online at www.skycaddie.com.

About: David Theoret
David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.
Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.
After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
